Traveller’s letter to mom

Traveller’s letter to mom

Dear mom, I know you wanted me to stay home, find a job here, get married and have kids. All the usual society-approved things. Things parents like to brag about to their neighbours. But I don’t see all this as my path. And almost like […]

My Diary

My travels

My travels

Ireland.

It all started in spring 2015. I’ve decided to pack my bags and try my luck in Ireland. It ended up being an awesome adventure filled with all kinds of memories, the good and the bad ones, but mostly the good ones. It was a real life. I’ve worked, I’ve lived, I’ve traveled. And I’ve met so many people along the way, the people I can now call my friends. What a journey that was. I stayed there for 6 months. In spring 2016 I came back. For another adventure.

Australia.

2005, 2014 and 2016. And hopefully again and again. The time of my life and the land of my dreams. I don’t even know where to begin. Melbourne, Myrtleford, Sydney, Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Cairns. And many more small towns and places along the way. My first dive. My first surfing lesson. Camping on the lake. Walking the Harbour Bridge. Riding on a boat on Yarra river. Paddling in Gold Coast. Meeting new people. Getting lost in Sydney. Back in the 70-ies in Nimbin. Magical Byron Bay. My first couchsurfing. I could go on and on. And I will. 😉

Portugal.

Spring 2017. Went to Peniche to take photos of surfers for one surf school. Beautiful beaches. The people I’ve met. The places I’ve seen. The lessons I’ve learned.

Travel quotes

And to summarize all that, here are a few of my favourite quotes on travelling. They also represent what travel should be. Not only seeing new places, but feeling them. Getting to know them and getting to know yourself. Moving your boundaries. Improving your whole being and finding a purpose in life. Living the life.

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” – Marcel Proust

“I address you all tonight for who you truly are: wizards, mermaids, travelers, adventurers, and magicians. You are the true dreamers.” – Brian Selznick

“To move, to breathe, to fly, to float,
To gain all while you give,
To roam the roads of lands remote,
To travel is to live.” – Hans Christian Andersen

“For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return.”- Leonardo da Vinci

“If you wish to travel far and fast, travel light. Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness and fears. – Cesare Pavese

“All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.”- Martin Buber

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” – Mark Twain

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.” – Terry Pratchett
